Description

Clearcast Water Clear Polyester Casting Resin + Catalyst is a premium-quality, optically clear resin system designed for high-gloss casting, object embedding and professional creative projects. Perfect for jewellery makers, sculptors, model makers and set designers, this versatile polyester resin is ideal for producing crystal-clear castings with excellent surface detail and a smooth finish.

The low viscosity allows the resin to flow easily into moulds and around embedded objects, making it highly suitable for paperweights, encapsulation projects, decorative castings and fine-detail mouldings. Once fully cured, it can be compounded and polished to achieve a stunning, glass-like shine, giving your work a premium, professional appearance.

The catalyst ratio can be adjusted depending on the type of application. For standard small castings, mouldings and paperweights, a 2% catalyst mix is typically suitable. For larger moulds or multi-layer pours, catalyst can be reduced to 1%, while thinner coatings may require up to 3% catalyst to generate sufficient heat for curing.

Curing time will vary depending on ambient temperature, catalyst level and pour depth. Under typical conditions, curing can take as little as 2 hours, but in colder environments or thin pours it may take up to a couple of days.

This is a ready-to-use kit supplied with everything required to begin casting straight away. Resin is supplied by weight, not volume, ensuring accuracy and consistency when ordering and measuring. Each kit also includes a catalyst and a syringe for controlled dispensing, helping you achieve the correct mix ratio for your project.

What’s Included: Water clear polyester casting resin (supplied by weight), catalyst (hardener) & 10ml syringe for accurate measuring.

Applications: Object embedding and encapsulation, jewellery making, paperweights, decorative mouldings, sculpture casting, set and prop design.

  • Premium quality polyester casting resin
  • Optically clear finish for professional results
  • Low viscosity for easy pouring & object embedding
  • Excellent reproduction of fine detail
  • Easily pigmented for creative colour effects
  • Polishable to a high-gloss finish
  • Ideal for jewellery, sculpture casting, set design & encapsulation projects

Mixing Ratio Guide (Catalyst to Resin):

  • 2% catalyst: Standard casts, mouldings and small paperweights.
  • 1% catalyst: Larger moulds and multi-layer pours.
  • Up to 3% catalyst: Thin coatings requiring extra heat to cure.

Curing Time:

Curing depends on temperature, catalyst amount and pour depth:

  • Approx. 2 hours to a couple of days.

Important: As with most polyester resins, this product has a strong odour. You may notice the smell even while it is sealed in its container. We recommend using this resin in a well-ventilated workspace and to follow all supplied instructions carefully. Detailed instructions are included with every kit, and it is always advisable to test a small piece before committing to a larger project. For additional guidance, there are many excellent online resources and tutorials available.

If you need help choosing the right resin or catalyst ratio, expert advice is available Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm.
