Description

Crestamould® Gelcoat 15PA(B) is a superior performance vinylester brush tooling gelcoat for making moulds designed to have a long service lifetime and retain high gloss levels after multiple pulls. It is easy to apply and achieves good coverage.

There is no gassing of the gelcoat ensuring a very low porosity surface. It cures with a standard MEKP catalyst.  Crestamould Gelcoat 15PA (B) has excellent resistance to fibre print through when used with Crestamould VE679PA skincoat, Crestamould RTR4010PA or Crestamould Resin 474PA. Features and Benefits Vinyl ester base resin Matched tooling system Excellent chemical and heat resistance Good impact resistance Excellent surface finish and can be polished to high gloss Reduces reinforcement print-through Gel Time and Backup Time Catalyst level and temperature will influence the gel time. The product only requires the addition of catalyst to start curing. We recommend the use of a 50% MEKP (type Butanox® M-50) which should be added at 2% in the gelcoat. Post-curing For optimum life, a mould constructed using Crestamould® Gelcoat 15PA (B) should be fully cured before being put into use. This can be achieved by placing the mould in an oven at 40°C for 30 hours. If this is not practical, the mould should be left in warm conditions (>20°C) for 2-3 weeks prior to use. Where a mould is likely to experience severe conditions (e.g. due to high exotherm temperatures within backing laminates), it should be post cured at an elevated temperature. Contact our Technical Service department for further advice Mould Release System When a new mould is manufactured, traces of residual monomer remain within the tooling gelcoat. Although post curing at 80°C will reduce this to an insignificant level, exposing a new mould to this temperature is not always practical or desirable. The first release from a new mould is, therefore, likely to be the most difficult, particularly if a mould which is not post cured is subjected to elevated temperatures during its initial use. These temperatures could arise from the exotherm of the laminate contained within the mould, or from the mould itself being passed through a heated area during use. The following procedure was developed to combat release problems on new moulds manufactured and cured at workshop temperature. It demonstrates an excellent release performance on new moulds and is equally effective on moulds of any age: 1. Before first use, allow the mould to mature for a minimum of 7 days at 18°C or above. 2. Clean the mould thoroughly with a polyester mould cleaner. 3. Apply a polyester mould sealer according to manufacturers instructions. 4. Apply a semi-permanent release agent according to manufacturers instructions. 5. Optional apply one coat of a hard wax such as Mirrorglaze. This will reduce any tendency to de- wet or pre-release when the mould is used. 6. After the first release, use a masking tape test to check that the release agent remains on the mould surface. 7. If so, apply one coat of semi-permanent or hard wax. If not, repeat steps 2 to 4. 8. Continue as step 6 until the release performance becomes predictable and easy then re-apply one coat of release agent as and when required.

Excellent gelcoatReviewed by Info on 15 Apr 2025

After using general purpose and value range gelcoat for molds, I tried this, and it is way way better. Polishes really well and even copes with 90 degree oven cure Prepreg.

Is this compatible with epodex eco epoxy, I need to colour 42kg
Hi david. Sorry the response is late but yes you can pigment Epoxy but at 10% ratio by weight.
Hi Is this Satin and powder ? suited for metal.
Hi Jay. Sorry this is so late but the pigment to be mixed in Topcoat is a paste and not a powder.
I would like to purchase 15 pails (20kg each) of Scott Bader Crystic 1355PA Class 1 Fire Retardant Resin (Inc Catalyst). Could you please advise the estimated delivery time to Hong Kong and the shipping cost? Thanks.
Hi Siena. Unfortunately we can not deliver to Hong Kong. We are limited to shipping information unless you can arrange your own internal transport. Regards Paul.
Hi Is this suitable to re coat an existing fibreglass roof if I sand the old gel coat and what roughly is the coverage per litre. Thanks
Hi Keith. First you must remove all traces of topcoat as this still contains a wax and may pre release. It is advised to remove all back to the laminate and acetone wipe and then re-apply.
How big is a 1kg tin is it equivalent to 1ltr
Yes, it is roughly equivalent to 1L. Pigments vary slightly as certain colours weigh more than others but it is made in a 1L tin.
Is it possible to colour Isopon p38 car filler with a portion of ral3012 to stain it?
Hi Peter. Isopon can be coloured using our standard pigments. 10-15% should be fine.
Is this correct product to repair chips in a Humber Destroyer hull? Thanks Nick
Hi Nick. Your best product will be Gelcoat filler with the colour you have chosen. Put the colour number in the special instructions at the end.
how many ml is 1.1kg or what is the square foot coverage? Thanks
Hi Martin. 1.1kg will cover approx 2Mtr2
What is the coverage of 20kg of top coat and is there a data sheet available
Hi Mike. This is approx 500-600grm per mtr 2. Data sheet is available.
Are these pigments in powder form? Can I use them to color waxes? Thank you
Hi Adrian. These pigments are in paste form so only can be mixed in Polyester resin or Epoxy.
Can I use this paint on my soffits, fascias and barge boards?
Hi Adrian. Unfortunately not as this will peel off plastic.
Hi I have received my order of Crestomer 1152PA I have opened the tin and it is a thick wall paper paste consistency. Is this correct? Also on the description it says two part. Do I have to buy part 2 separately? Of so what is it called? Thanks Mark
Hi Mark. Yes this material is like a body filler consistency and requires the addition of a catalyst to set it off. This product is probably the most adhesive Crestomer on the market and can be applied up to 30mm thick. Hope this helps.
I'm willing to buy the M1-30 but coudnt see the hardener tube... Does it follow or I will have to purchase it separately? Another thing is the gun, please show me a suitable one for the 490ml M1-30... Thanks in advance!
Hi Arnaldo. This producy has the catalyst piggy backing the main tube like a space rocket. It requires a gun with two pistons to be able to apply both materials at the correct percentage.
What is the coverage ratio please, I can't find it 1sq meter equals how much topcoat, thanks darren
Hi darren. The approximate quantity is 500-600grm per square metre.
Hi. Can this product be used as boat transom plywood replacement (Liquid transom)? Thank you.
Hi Dragos. Yes this product ( Isothalic Resin) can be used on a transom. It is overkill but be assured of its rigitity. Perfect.
Hi. Can this product be used for filling boat transom replacing plywood? Thank you.
Hi Dragos. No this product can not have a thickness of cure more than 1cm. This will just crack under the exotherm.
Hello. We have a steep access ramp which regularly gets wet. It's 4ft wide & 12ft long & surface is metal chequer plate. Im looking for the gripyist topcoat I can apply that'll form a hard-wearing and nonslip covering? Thanks in advance.
Hi Marcus. We will probably have to suggest Restec system as you need to apply a primer for the metal surface and they a Restec system with a gravel material and balcony sealer to make it rigid. You will lose the metal look unfortunately.
Is this suitable to bond in replacement stringers and to be fibreglassed in place?
Hi Valerie. Yes this can be used but be careful as it has a very quick cure time (8 mins) 1196PA is a better product for stringers.
G275 External Roof Trim. What thickness is this please. and can it be painted? Looking to use this as a flat roof edge trim.
Hi Steve. The thicknes is 450grm (1mm thick) and it can be painted.
Hello, Would this adhesive be useful in an instance where we are using htem between Carbon fiber rod placed inside a steel rode. There is a chance that this assembly could be subjected to a high loads during its tensile testing procedure, Could you please clear this up for me? Thanks loads!
Hi Sam. This product is very good under extreme load so yes i would recommend this. Also look at the data sheet for 1186PA Crestomer. A cheaper version but very effective. Sorry this has taken so long to respond.
Hi, is this suitable for use under the water line of a GRP boat if it is getting primed and antifouled or do I need a waterproof marine filler?
Hi Trev. Yes this material will be fine under the waterline.
Can you please provide the dimensions of this product and the thickness of it. Thank you
Hi Ed. So sorry this email has escaped us. The information you require is 3mtr long 450grm grade mat 200mm wide. Hope this helps.
Can you provide the dimensions of this product and thickness please. H, L, W of the fillet
Hi Ed. I believe we may have answered this one already but here goes. 3mtr Long 450grm CSM used 200mm wide
Hi I manufacture mdf kitchen doors and I’m wondering if I could use your white polyester like a primer to spray on router edges and fronts to fill and create a smooth surface for polyurethane paint? Regards David Collier
Hi David. This product can be sprayed with the extra addition of styrene. The only unfortunate issue is it is not very good at filling gaps or holes because you need the viscosity to spray and it may run on vertical surfaces. Unfortunately you may need to do a trial of a panel and test. Hope this helps and sorry it's taken so long to resond. FSL Team
Hello, I hope you are well. We have hardwood front doors which have been stained with Ronseal Satin Deep Mahogany and we are looking for a matching paint for the garage door which is fibreglass. Will this paint (RAL 8012 Red Brown) be suitable? Also will the colour match? Thank you.
Hi Gursewak. Unfortunately our colours are pigmentations that you apply into polyester or Epoxy resin. I'm not sure if this is ok for your application. You may need to do a test if this is to succeed.
Can you advise on the average coverage in M2 please?
Hi Clive. Sorry this has taken so long to respond. The approx coverage is 500-600grm per mtr Hope this helps.
Hi which catalyst do I need for your gel coat
Hello, Thank you for your question, for gelcoat and topcoats you would need to use MEKP which is a standard catalyst. https://www.fslplymouth.co.uk/catalyst/grp-catalyst-hardener-mekp-organic-peroxide/ *Please note that the product you have questioned this on is a pigment* Thank you!
