Clearcast Iron Metal Powder is a high-quality metallic filler used in resin casting, cold casting and composite applications where improved heat control, strength, and an authentic metallic appearance are required. It is particularly beneficial in larger castings, helping to reduce exotherm and minimise shrinkage while increasing the overall strength and structural stability of the finished piece.
This versatile powder is ideal for producing realistic cold cast iron effects, delivering the weight, texture, and surface character associated with solid iron when combined with compatible resin systems. Its fine particle size ensures smooth dispersion within resins, excellent mould coverage, and crisp surface detail, making it suitable for both decorative and functional casting projects.
Iron Metal Powder is typically added at the user’s discretion, as every project has unique requirements. A minimum recommended mix ratio of 1:1 (metal powder to resin by weight) will achieve a visible iron effect, while ratios of up to 4 parts metal powder to 1 part resin can be used to create a heavier, more authentic metallic finish. As resin types and casting methods vary, small test mixes are strongly recommended to determine the optimal ratio for your application.
For best visual results, dusting the mould surface with iron powder before introducing the resin-powder mixture is advised. This technique enhances surface definition and produces a deeper metallic finish. Different metal powders may also be blended together to achieve custom effects, provided they are thoroughly mixed before use. Please note that natural colour variations may occur between batches, which is a normal characteristic of metal powders.
