Description

The West System 406 Colloidal Silica is an incredibly versatile and adaptable epoxy thickening additive and filler that's ideal for smooth finishes, general epoxy bonding and filleting. It works by controlling the thickness of epoxy, preventing sagging and runoff, while also thickening and improving the epoxy mixture to improve strength, abrasion resistance and bonding properties.

Recognised as one of the most versatile and adaptable fillers in the West System range, it produces a smooth, easily workable mixture for professional-quality finishes. When used by itself, it creates a strong, translucent white mixture with a smooth, creamy texture. This makes it an excellent choice for fillets and general bonding where a clean and durable result is required. West System 406 can also be blended with other fillers to improve strength, abrasion resistance and consistency in fairing compounds.

For colour-matched fillets, West System 406 provides a perfect base. By first thickening epoxy with 406 to a mayonnaise-like consistency and then adding wood sanding dust, you can achieve a natural tone that blends seamlessly with surrounding timber. The final shade can be adjusted by the amount of dust added, ranging from lighter to darker tones, offering flexibility to match the look of varnished or epoxy-coated wood surfaces.

Because the uncured mixture closely reflects its final cured appearance, achieving a consistent natural finish is straightforward, making West System 406 Colloidal Silica a popular choice for those seeking to enhance the strength, durability and beauty of wood structures.

Designed for fillets, general bonding, abrasion resistance, structural fortification & thickening.

Project Uses: Thicken blended resin/hardener and create a multi-purpose adhesive for smooth finishes, overhead or vertical applications, increasing strength of fairing compounds & joints.
