Description

Carbon Fibre 205g 2x2 Twill Weave 3K - 1.27m Width This is one of the most popular Carbon Fibre cloths available and sold by the Linear Metre. The 201g Weight refers to the weight of 1sqm of the fabric. Laminated this gives the Classic Carbon Fibre Weave Look and Feel to your finished project. It is suitable for use in wet-lay, vacuum bagging and resin infusion manufacture as well as for use as a single surface layer where parts are being made to look like carbon fibre.

The weave pattern is a "2x2 Twill." This refers to the way the carbon fibers are woven together. In a 2x2 twill weave, each tow (individual bundle of fibers) passes over two and under two other tows alternately in both the warp (lengthwise) and weft (crosswise) directions. Twill weaves are known for their diagonal pattern, which provides a good balance of strength and flexibility. Carbon Fiber Type (3k): The "3k" in the description refers to the carbon fiber filament type. In this case, it indicates 3,000 filaments (or fibers) per tow. Carbon fibers are often classified by their tow size, with common designations including 1k (1,000 filaments), 3k, 6k, and 12k. A higher number generally indicates a larger number of filaments and, in turn, a denser and potentially stronger material. Applications Aerospace Applications: Carbon fiber composites are widely used in the aerospace industry due to their high strength-to-weight ratio. They are employed in components like aircraft panels, structural elements, and interior parts. Automotive Components: Carbon fiber cloth is used in the manufacturing of lightweight and high-strength automotive components such as body panels, interior trims, and structural reinforcements. Sports Equipment: Carbon fiber is popular in the production of sports equipment, including bicycle frames, tennis rackets, golf clubs, and other high-performance gear, where the combination of strength and light weight is essential. Marine Applications: Carbon fiber is used in boat building and marine applications due to its resistance to corrosion and lightweight properties. It's often used in hulls, decks, and other structural components. Industrial and Structural Reinforcements: Carbon fiber cloth is utilized in various industrial applications for reinforcing structures. It's employed in construction, bridges, and other projects where high-strength materials are needed. Orthopedic Devices: Carbon fiber is used in the production of orthopedic devices, such as braces, prosthetics, and other medical equipment due to its strength and biocompatibility. Consumer Goods: Carbon fiber is also found in consumer goods like electronic devices, luggage, and fashion items, where the material's aesthetic appeal and strength are valued. Robotics: Carbon fiber components are used in robotics to reduce weight while maintaining structural integrity, enhancing the performance and efficiency of robotic systems. It's important to note that the specific uses can vary depending on the exact specifications of the carbon fiber cloth, such as its weight, weave pattern, and resin compatibility. Manufacturers often provide technical data sheets that outline the properties and recommended applications for their specific carbon fiber products.

Could you tell me what the approximate coverage would be please ? May Thank Jon
Hi John. The usage is dependant on the surface being coated and whether it is sealed first of not. On sealed ply wood the coverage will be approx 400grm per metre square. Hope this helps
Hi Just bought some of this. There didn’t seem to be any mixing instructions though if you can let me know what they are and any advice on application. Thanks Keith F
Hello Keith. Gelcoat filler is subjective because under normal condition with polyester resin you would apply 20ml per 1kg. But this product is used in very small quantities (5grm at a time) so a small dribble of catalyst would need to be used. Hope this helps.
