Hello Keith. Gelcoat filler is subjective because under normal condition with polyester resin you would apply 20ml per 1kg. But this product is used in very small quantities (5grm at a time) so a small dribble of catalyst would need to be used.

Yes this needs an escape hole and the calculation is every 1kg mix is 1 x cubic foot.

First you must remove all traces of topcoat as this still contains a wax and may pre release. It is advised to remove all back to the laminate and acetone wipe and then re-apply.

Yes, it is roughly equivalent to 1L. Pigments vary slightly as certain colours weigh more than others but it is made in a 1L tin.
I want to use this filler to fill some screw holes and gouges up to 5mm deep on a vertical surface but it's too runny. Is there a way of thickening it?

I would first fill the holes with a strong body filler leaving about 2mm the replace the gelcoat. Gelcoat, if applied too thick is prone to cracking.

The only calculation you will need is every 1kg of resin you need 20ml of catalyst. This is 2% catalyst ratio. The hotter it is the less catalyst is required. Average is 16-21% heat for the material to cure.

Yes this material is like a body filler consistency and requires the addition of a catalyst to set it off. This product is probably the most adhesive Crestomer on the market and can be applied up to 30mm thick.

This producy has the catalyst piggy backing the main tube like a space rocket. It requires a gun with two pistons to be able to apply both materials at the correct percentage.

We will probably have to suggest Restec system as you need to apply a primer for the metal surface and they a Restec system with a gravel material and balcony sealer to make it rigid. You will lose the metal look unfortunately.

Unfortunately this product is already white and would take a lot of pigment to get it to your desired colour. Also this would effect the cure rate and properties of the product. Please look at standard gelcoat filler to your desired Ral colour on our website.

Hi David. This product can be sprayed with the extra addition of styrene. The only unfortunate issue is it is not very good at filling gaps or holes because you need the viscosity to spray and it may run on vertical surfaces. Hi Gursewak. Unfortunately our colours are pigmentations that you apply into polyester or Epoxy resin. I'm not sure if this is ok for your application. You may need to do a test if this is to succeed.

As you can appreciate, using small amounts is very difficult to measure catalyst ratio's. The rule of thumb is 1 x good measure (1cm) of filler to half a cap full of cat. You will have to gauge the timings as every day is has a variant in the temperature.

So sorry this has taken so long to respond but i would not advise using epoxy on an external surface as it's only nemesis is UV rays and will breakdown very quickly. Maybe look at polyester resin (489PA) with Carborudum grit as this will last far longer.

Yes this would work but has to be totally encapsulated within resin and chopped starnd mat as it is not a closed cell foam and will absorb reasonably quickly.

Hi David. I would advise taking off the original topcoat as you don't always achieve a good adhesion. Abrade back to the main laminate, acetone clean then make your application. MEKP is supplied separately.

My only advice to you would be to abrade all gelcoat/Topcoat off and reapply. This would ensure total coverage and a new finish.

Gelcoat filler is used as an instant get repair. You Dremil the area back to the underlying laminate, then acetone wipe. Then take about a cm of gel (10grm) mix a few little dribbles of catalyst and mix. With a small wooden mixing stick apply the gel into the newly created crack and fill. Leave approx 49hrs to fully harden off. Abrade back and polish up. The mark should disappear.
